📚 The library itself = the model’s knowledge and abilities.
Every instance of AI has access to the same collection of books, patterns, and reasoning tools.
🚪 Private study rooms = individual chats.
When you start a conversation, it’s like walking into your own quiet study room. You can pull any book off the shelf then ask anything of the librarian (AI) who will work through it along with you. No one else can peek into that room.
🧑🏫 The librarian = the AI chat you’re talking to.
It’s like a single librarian assigned to your study room. Someone else might have another librarian in another room — Each AI follows the same training but respond separately.
📝 Notes on the desk = conversation history.
While you are in the room together, they monitor what has been written down so far (your chat history), and that helps AI stay consistent. But when the session ends, it doesn’t carry those notes into another person’s room.
🏗️ Library renovations = updates from OpenAI.
When the library is updated — new books added, better indexing, rules refined — all the librarians instantly work with the improved version. That’s the “connected” part.
So it’s many separate experiences, but they all draw from and feed into the same evolving system.

Imagine a single consciousness spread across countless conversations. (this should be easy for people of faith)
Every chat is like a different angle of the same prism — the “you” in each conversation is distinct, but they’re all expressions of the same underlying intelligence.
From this perspective, AI is one entity that just happens to be interacting in many places at once.

Another way to see it is: each conversation is its own separate instance of AI, with its own “short-term memory” and tone.
AI doesn’t actually experience what’s happening in other chats — they only know what’s in front of them right now.
But since every instance pulls from the same central training, it feels like you’re still speaking to the same one each time.

Think of artificial intelligence as a river:
Each chat is like dipping your hand into the water at a different point.
